I hope this programme will be of help to those with
young children and particularly those parents of
toddlers who may suffer from ADD/ADHD (Attention Deficit
/Hyperactivity Disorder).
Children who suffer with ADD usually have very short
attention spans, give the appearance of daydreaming and
have great difficulty concentrating on any one thing.
Children with the added hyperactive element i.e. ADHD
are in addition to the above, often very restless
appearing to be permanently on the go, destructive
without thinking, constantly talking/shouting and
requiring very little sleep. These are just some of the
possible symptoms. You can find out more by visiting our
website (address below).
Many of the above symptoms manifest themselves in very
early childhood i.e. often from age 2. With early
identification these children can be helped at a very
early stage and receive the right support as they start
playgroup and school.
At present many parents are living this "nightmare" and
more often than not these children are not diagnosed
until age 10 or above when people finally realise there
may be a problem.
By the use of this programme aimed more at younger
children it is hoped that some parents may be made
aware of this disorder whilst their children are at
a young age, so that if the symptoms above are being
displayed they may seek help now and reap the benefits
of early detection.
It is often the case that these disorders can be so
stressful in a family situation that a total family
breakdown results. It is not uncommon for ADD/ADHD
children to be in one parent families. If this programme
succesfully highlights the problem for just one family
then it has been worth it.
